CHICAGO ~ Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot has announced the appointment of Dr. Miquel A. Lewis to Chicago's Board of Education.

"I am thrilled to have Dr. Lewis step into this role," said Mayor Lightfoot. "His years of experience serving young people who are impacted by other institutions will be a great asset to our board and will benefit our students and teachers."

Dr. Lewis is a lifelong resident of Chicago and has been committed to serving a population of children that are often overlooked. He is the acting Director of Probation Services at the Cook County Juvenile Probation and Court Services Department, leading project teams in designing and implementing strategic public safety initiatives, identifying progress monitoring metrics, analyzing outcomes data, and presenting department-level reports to judicial, legislative, and executive branch leaders of local government to inform their work. He has fifteen years of experience in forensic and organizational psychology in the public safety sector of local government.

In addition, Dr. Lewis provides education and training to graduate-level students and professionals pursuing continued education certification. He serves on Supreme Court Advisory Board and Illinois Probation and Court Services Board as well as being the former Chairman of Noble Network of Charter Schools. He graduated from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and an M.A. in Counseling Psychology, as well as receiving his B.A in Psychology from Southern Illinois University.

Upon his appointment, Dr Lewis expressed his enthusiasm for the role: "What a privilege! I am honored by the opportunity to serve the students and City of Chicago in this way," he said "Education is critical in the lives of our youth, and this is a pivotal time in education for Chicago Public Schools and its students." He added that "As a trained Behavioral Health Practitioner, I look forward to sharing my expertise and experiences as a resource to center our work on the emotional wellbeing and academic success of our students."

Mayor Lightfoot's appointment of Dr Lewis is sure to bring great benefit to both students and teachers alike with his wealth of experience serving young people who are impacted by other institutions
