Aerostratospheric Private Test Launch 100-Gram Component-Less MAD-AP Platform Saturday, September 12, 2026 Closed to the Public — Team & Invited Personnel Only
CHICAGO - illiNews -- Aerostratospheric will conduct a private engineering test flight on Saturday, September 12, 2026, featuring a 100-gram, component-less Modular Advanced Data Acquisition Payload (MAD-AP) platform designed for mid-altitude, long-duration atmospheric flight.
The MAD-AP represents a new direction in Aerostratospheric's development of ultra-lightweight atmospheric research platforms. Unlike conventional high-altitude balloon missions that ascend toward the stratosphere, MAD-AP is being engineered to operate at mid-tropospheric altitudes, where it can achieve neutral buoyancy and utilize naturally occurring jetstream winds for extended drift.
The platform is designed to ride strong atmospheric currents for multi-day observations, with future development potentially enabling long-duration global circumnavigation. MAD-AP shares core electronic technology with Aerostratospheric's X2Griffon system while being optimized for substantially lower mass and extended endurance.

A Focused Engineering Validation
The September 12 flight is intentionally a stripped-down, component-less validation test, rather than a full scientific mission. View upcoming missions at https://aerostratospheric.com
The primary objectives are to evaluate:
Data and observations from the test will be used to inform the continued engineering and development of the complete MAD-AP platform.
Aerostratospheric is currently targeting Q2 2027 for the first full MAD-AP science launch.
Closed Engineering Event
The September 12 test launch will be closed to the public. Access will be limited to authorized Aerostratospheric team members and pre-approved personnel.
Exact launch window and location information will be distributed privately to the flight team and authorized participants.
The private nature of the test allows Aerostratospheric engineers and flight personnel to focus on platform validation, operational procedures, and performance characterization without the logistical requirements of a public launch event.
