CHICAGO ~ Chicago plans to deploy more than 30 crews on Saturday, Oct. 3, for a second consecutive weekend pothole repair blitz, targeting areas with the greatest need, Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Chicago Department of Transportation said.
The city expects crews to repair thousands of potholes. During last Saturday's blitz, workers filled nearly 5,600, according to the city.
The effort adds crews to CDOT's year-round street maintenance work, which the department says has patched more than 330,000 potholes across Chicago so far in 2026. Repairs continue throughout the year, though winter is typically the busiest period, when crews work seven days a week, the city said.

"Every pothole we fill makes our streets safer and more accessible for the people who rely on them every day," Johnson said in a statement, adding that the fall work would help prepare streets for winter.
CDOT Commissioner William Cheaks said the department was using the fall construction season to address street conditions and deliver improvements residents rely on.
Paving work is also continuing this fall. The city said more than 100 miles of streets and alleys have been resurfaced this year.
Residents can report potholes by calling 311, using the CHI311 app or visiting 311.chicago.gov. The city also urged drivers to slow down and use caution near crews working in streets and alleys.
