Colorado workers' compensation attorney Michael H. Kaplan recognized for longstanding PHPA service and advocacy protecting professional athletes' workers' compensation rights.
DENVER - illiNews -- Michael H. Kaplan, Esq., of Kaplan Morrell, has been recognized for his work protecting professional athletes' workers' compensation rights as he marks 17 years serving on the Professional Hockey Players' Association (PHPA) Workers' Compensation Panel.
The PHPA established its Workers' Compensation Panel to benefit its member players, selecting experienced workers' compensation attorneys to represent players in the states where teams are located. Panel attorneys help injured professional hockey players navigate workers' compensation claims and pursue available medical and disability benefits.

Kaplan's recognition follows his advocacy this year in response to a legislative proposal that sought to carve professional athletes out of certain workers' compensation protections in Colorado.
Kaplan worked alongside professional players' associations to oppose the proposed carve-out and advocate for athletes to receive the same workers' compensation protections available to other injured employees in Colorado.
His work reflects a longstanding commitment to professional athletes. In addition to serving on the PHPA Workers' Compensation Panel, Kaplan works with multiple professional sports players' associations and is one of only two NFL Players Association-appointed panel counsel in Colorado.
For 17 years, Kaplan's position on the PHPA panel has placed him among a nationwide group of experienced workers' compensation attorneys dedicated to protecting injured professional hockey players. Many PHPA panel attorneys also serve organizations representing athletes in other major professional sports.
