~ Naperville Police Department Joins Statewide Campaign to Combat Impaired Driving on Labor Day

As the Labor Day weekend approaches, the Naperville Police Department is gearing up to join over 200 law enforcement agencies across Illinois in a statewide effort to promote safe driving. The department will be participating in three campaigns: "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over," "Drive High. Get a DUI," and "Click It or Ticket."

According to Naperville Police Sergeant Eric Muska, driving under the influence of any impairing substance is not only dangerous, but also illegal. He emphasized that this enforcement campaign will allow for increased patrols and zero tolerance for impaired driving.

In addition to targeting impaired driving, officers will also be enforcing seat belt laws as part of the "Click It or Ticket" initiative. Buckling up is the most effective way to prevent serious injury or death in a crash, and it is important for everyone in the vehicle to be properly buckled.

The Naperville Police Department will also be on the lookout for drivers who are impaired by cannabis or other drugs. This falls in line with the statewide education and enforcement effort, which aims to save lives through messages like "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Drive High. Get a DUI."

Sgt. Muska urged community members to enjoy the holiday weekend safely and responsibly by planning ahead, using a designated driver, and never getting behind the wheel while impaired. These decisions can make all the difference in saving lives.

This local effort is part of a larger statewide campaign supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The department administers both the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Click It or Ticket" campaigns with federal highway safety funds. IDOT's media campaign, "It's Not a Game," will also run across various platforms to highlight the deadly consequences of impaired driving.
