CHICAGO ~ Chicago, IL - The City of Chicago has joined forces with a coalition of 23 attorneys general, as well as seven counties and cities, in opposing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) proposed rescission of its 2009 finding that greenhouse gas emissions contribute to climate change and pose a threat to public health and welfare. This move comes after Mayor Brandon Johnson issued a statement expressing the city's commitment to taking action against federal actions that disregard scientific evidence.

According to Mayor Johnson, the decision to oppose the EPA's proposal is crucial in upholding their long-standing commitment to protecting public health and preventing further harm from climate change. He also emphasized the disproportionate impact of climate change on working people and marginalized communities, particularly those who are Black and Brown.
The city plans to work closely with climate experts, community members, and other cities, counties, and states in their efforts to combat climate change and defend the right to clean air for all Chicagoans. This united front aims to protect public health while addressing the urgent issue of climate change.
