NAPERVILLE, Ill. ~ Naperville, Illinois - The City's annual bulk curbside leaf collection program is set to begin on Monday, October 21st. This free program offers residents three collection opportunities over a six-week period, weather permitting. It is just one of the many options available for disposing of or repurposing fallen leaves and is meant to complement other methods such as mulching, composting, and free bagged leaf collection.
To participate in the curbside collection, residents are advised to rake their leaves into the street next to the curb by 6 a.m. on the first day of each collection cycle. It is important to avoid storm drains while doing so. The scheduled cycles are as follows: Monday, October 21st; Monday, November 4th; and Monday, November 18th. Depending on weather conditions, it will take crews approximately two weeks to complete each citywide collection. Leaves will be collected in front of each home once during each cycle.
An interactive map will be available at naperville.il.us/leafcollection for residents to track the progress of the collection cycles. Additionally, residents can sign up for Naper Notify at naperville.il.us/napernotify to receive leaf collection updates via phone call, text message, email or smartphone app. However, it should be noted that the bulk curbside leaf collection program may end at any time due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.

Residents are reminded that snow, rain or freezing weather may significantly delay or even halt curbside leaf collection. In such cases, they should dispose of remaining leaves through the City's weekly yard waste collection program. Due to uncertainties in leaf volume and weather conditions, the City cannot guarantee curbside leaf collection on a specific day.
It is recommended that residents rake their leaves into the street during every collection cycle, even if it is a small amount. This helps prevent delays and ensures that the final collection crews do not have a large quantity to pick up when snow is most likely and timing is crucial. It is also important to avoid placing items other than leaves in leaf piles, as branches, twigs, lumber, rocks and other items can cause equipment breakdowns, delay the collection process and increase costs.
Residents are also urged to rake leaves away from storm drains to prevent flooding. The leaf collection equipment may leave debris on the street, but street sweeping will begin after curbside leaf collection ends, weather permitting. Residents may choose to sweep up any remaining leaf debris and include it in the weekly yard waste collection.
Once crews have completed the final curbside collection in their area, all remaining leaves must be disposed of through the City's weekly yard waste collection program or reused for landscaping purposes.

In addition to the bulk curbside leaf collection program, Naperville offers a free bagged leaf and yard waste collection program from November 4th to December 13th. During this time, residents are not required to use yard waste stickers for materials placed in 32-gallon paper bags or clearly marked trash cans or carts. These items should be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. on their normal trash collection day.
Prior to November 4th, a yard waste sticker is required for each bag, can or cart placed out for collection. Branches and other yard waste materials that are tied into bundles always require a yard waste sticker. All yard waste collections will end for the year on December 13th, including the City's yard waste/organics program which allows residents to dispose of food waste/organics and yard waste for a monthly fee paid to Groot Industries.
Residents are encouraged to consider alternative ways of using their yard waste this season. For example, using the mulching feature while mowing instead of bagging clippings can help keep lawns healthy and save space in landfills. Shredded leaves can also be mixed into the soil to improve its quality and provide food, nesting material, and cover for wildlife. Composted leaves can also be used as mulch or covering for vegetable gardens and have several uses in organic lawn care.
