~ Naperville Police Arrest Man for Theft and Insurance Fraud
After a lengthy investigation, Naperville Police have arrested 45-year-old Robert J. Sladek of Downers Grove for multiple charges including theft, insurance fraud, forgery, and filing a false police report.
The investigation began in March 2022 when Sladek, who was living in Naperville at the time, filed an online theft report claiming that hand tools had been stolen from his vehicle. However, as detectives delved deeper into the case, they discovered that Sladek had allegedly submitted and received payouts on insurance claims for stolen tools in both 2021 and 2022, each exceeding $10,000.
Further investigation revealed that Sladek had never actually purchased or owned the tools he claimed were stolen. As a result, he is now facing two counts of felony theft and two counts of insurance fraud for each fraudulent claim. He also faces charges of forgery and filing a false police report for allegedly providing false documents to police with the intent to defraud his insurance agency.

Sladek turned himself into police on March 19, 2024. According to Police Chief Jason Arres, this case is a prime example of the importance of thorough detectives who are dedicated to pursuing the truth. "Our detectives are second to none," said Arres. "I am truly grateful for their diligence and desire to hold people accountable for their actions."
The Naperville Police would like to remind the public and news media that a charge is merely an accusation and that Sladek is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
This arrest serves as a reminder to always be cautious when filing insurance claims and to ensure that all information provided is accurate. The Naperville Police continue to urge anyone with information about this case or any other fraudulent activity to come forward and contact them immediately.
