~ The Naperville Police Department is taking a proactive approach to promoting traffic safety in the city. In response to the high number of crashes in 2024, with nearly 500 resulting in injuries and eight fatalities, the department is hosting a traffic safety webinar on Wednesday, April 23 at noon.
Led by Police Chief Jason Arres, Traffic Unit Sergeant Derek Zook, and Engineering Manager Andy Hynes from the City's Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED) Department, the webinar aims to educate citizens about the most common causes of crashes in Naperville. The trio will also discuss how the City works to improve traffic safety and how motorists can play a role in making roadways safer.
According to data presented by the Naperville Police Department, there were over 3,200 crashes in 2024 alone. This alarming number highlights the need for increased awareness and action when it comes to traffic safety.

During the webinar, attendees will learn about the frequency, locations, and most common causes of crashes in Naperville. Additionally, they will gain insight into how both the Police and TED departments evaluate roadway and driving complaints. The city's approach to reducing crash frequency and severity through a combination of education, engineering, and enforcement will also be discussed.
The webinar is free and open to the public with no registration required. Interested individuals can access it through a link on www.naperville.il.us/NPDCommunityEducation or by clicking here. For those without Zoom application downloaded on their device, an option to join via internet browser will be available.
For those unable to attend live, a recording of the webinar will be made available on the City's website for future viewing.
Police Chief Jason Arres emphasizes that traffic safety is a partnership between law enforcement and residents. While officers are responsible for enforcing traffic laws, it takes cooperation from citizens as well to make roads safer. He hopes that this webinar will provide eye-opening information for residents and encourage them to join forces with the department in promoting traffic safety.
