CHICAGO, Sept. 27, 2024 ~ Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) is gearing up for a momentous occasion as they prepare to celebrate the inauguration of their eighth president, Dr. Katrina E. Bell-Jordan. The three-day event, taking place from October 3rd to 5th in 2024, will be filled with activities and festivities centered around the theme of "Education, Excellence and Empowerment."
According to Michelle Morales, Vice Chair of Northeastern's Board of Trustees, the university is excited to invite their community, alumni, neighbors and friends to join in on this inspiring celebration of the next chapter in NEIU's history. "We are delighted to come together in acknowledging President Bell-Jordan, a distinguished leader who will undoubtedly strengthen our unwavering dedication to providing the excellence that NEIU students rightfully deserve," said Morales.
Dr. Bell-Jordan has been a part of the NEIU community since 1997 when she joined as an assistant professor in the Department of Communication, Media and Theatre (CMT). Over the years, she has taken on various leadership roles including serving as CMT department chair, associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. In March 2020, she was appointed dean of the College of Arts and Sciences before being named interim president for one year prior to officially becoming president on August 1st, 2024.

The inauguration events will be free and open to the public with highlights including a Peacefire Ceremony on October 3rd at 9:30 a.m., a CMT Expo at 12:15 p.m., Oktoberfest at various times across university locations and a Day of Service on October 5th at various times across university locations.
The main event will be the Inauguration Ceremony on Friday, October 4th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Northeastern Illinois University's Main Campus in the University Commons. Parking will be available in Lot L, with handicapped parking in Lot J. Members of the public are asked to RSVP by September 27th to attend the ceremony.
The celebration will continue on Saturday, October 5th with a semi-formal Inauguration Celebration beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Northeastern Illinois University's Main Campus in Alumni Hall. Parking will be available in Lot F and RSVP is required by September 27th to attend.
