University of Chicago engages in collaborative financial education project in Hong Kong

CHICAGO, April 17, 2024 ~ In a joint effort to promote financial education among young students in Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has provided funding and leadership for the creation of the "Jockey Club Financial Education for Students" project. This initiative is a collaboration between the University of Chicago Financial Education Initiative (UCFEI), Education University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Family Welfare Society, and CoCoon Foundation.

The project's main objective is to equip upper primary school students with essential financial planning capabilities, enabling them to achieve long-term financial well-being and personal fulfillment. Through timely learning materials, teacher training, and relevant supporting resources, the project aims to ensure an inclusive implementation of financial education in schools.

According to the UCFEI director Rebecca Maxcy, this project presents an incredible opportunity to work with local educators and global experts in developing high-quality teaching materials based on research. The partnerships formed through this project will empower teachers with professional development programs and a vibrant teacher community.

In addition to working with educators, the "Jockey Club Financial Education for Students" project also aims to involve parents in their children's financial education. Parent-child financial education workshops and seminars will be offered as part of a holistic approach to promoting financial literacy.

The ultimate goal of this project is to transform the financial landscape of Hong Kong by equipping the next generation with the necessary knowledge and skills for financial success and personal well-being. With support from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and collaboration from various organizations, this initiative hopes to make a significant impact on the lives of young students in Hong Kong.
