CHICAGO ~ Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has announced his nomination of Deputy Mayor Kenya Merritt as the new Commissioner of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE). With over 25 years of experience as a civic leader, Merritt has been serving as the Deputy Mayor of Business, Economic, and Neighborhood Development since 2023 and has been acting Commissioner of DCASE since October 2025.
In a statement, Mayor Johnson praised Merritt's leadership and track record in delivering results for the people of Chicago. He highlighted her extensive experience in supporting small businesses and neighborhood development, as well as her deep commitment to arts and culture.
