SYCAMORE, Ill., May 21, 2024 ~ Ideal Electrical™, a leading company in the electrical industry, has recently announced the launch of two new circuit tracer models – the SureTrace™ Circuit Tracer (61-946) and the SureTrace™ Plus Circuit Tracer (61-948). These innovative additions to their already impressive lineup are designed to incorporate the latest technological advances at a more affordable price.
The development of these new models was heavily influenced by feedback from electricians, ensuring that they meet the needs and demands of those in the field. The SureTrace™ Plus (61-948) stands out with its groundbreaking feature – an integrated continuity test that can detect shorts and splice errors. This patent-pending feature, along with IDEAL Electrical's signature TightSight™ rotating display technology, makes it easier and clearer for electricians to read measurements compared to other products on the market.
Carmen Cardillo, General Manager of IDEAL Electrical, expressed pride in building upon their legacy as a leader in the circuit tracing industry. "We have been at the forefront since we developed our original circuit tracer 19 years ago," he said. "With these new models, we are raising the bar even higher with their superior jobsite performance."

Circuit tracers are an essential tool for electricians as they save valuable time on the job. They allow for quick identification of which breaker or fuse protects a specific circuit, eliminating tedious manual testing. Additionally, they enable electricians to locate splice errors, dead shorts, and concealed conductors – even in challenging locations such as ceilings and floors. This streamlines troubleshooting processes and minimizes downtime on the job while also allowing one person to handle many tasks.
Professional electrician Greg Anliker from Elgin, Illinois tested these new models and praised their reliability and accuracy. "IDEAL SureTrace circuit tracers provide the most reliable and accurate readings of any tracer I have ever used," he said. "The latest models are more affordable and feature-packed than ever."
The first of the new models, the SureTrace™ Circuit Tracer (61-946), is rated up to CAT III 480V and features a newer chip design for improved performance. Its ergonomic and rugged design enhances grip and durability, making it able to withstand drops of up to two meters. The receiver also has an integrated backlight for use in poor lighting conditions, while the transmitter has a kickstand and optional magnetic hanging strap for versatile setup options.

The SureTrace™ Plus Circuit Tracer (61-948) includes all the enhancements of the 61-946 model, along with additional features. It is rated up to CAT III 600V and includes color-coded indicators for reading voltage levels (AC or DC), DC polarity, and PPE notification. The patented TightSight™ display located on the bottom of the receiver allows electricians to read measurements even when accessing cables overhead or deep within a distribution panel. The transmitter also boasts a patent-pending built-in continuity tester – a first in the market.
Chris Forthaus, Product Manager at IDEAL Electrical, highlighted the revolutionary nature of the Plus model with its integrated continuity testing feature. "The Plus is truly an all-in-one solution that can trace, test for, and locate shorts or splice errors without the need for a separate tester," he said.
IDEAL Electrical™ takes pride in expanding their circuit tracer offerings with these enhanced models. They remain committed to leading development in this industry to meet the evolving needs of electricians. With these new additions to their lineup, IDEAL continues to solidify its position as a trusted brand among professionals in the electrical field.
