CHICAGO ~ Chicago Mayor Launches Shop Local Campaign to Support Small Businesses
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP) have announced the launch of the Shop Local Chicago: Neighborhood Pride campaign. This campaign aims to encourage residents and visitors to explore new parts of the city, meet local business owners and neighbors, and share their experiences.
The campaign, which builds on the year-round Shop Local Chicago initiative, focuses on supporting businesses located in Little Village, Rogers Park, Auburn Gresham, and every neighborhood in between. With the holiday shopping season approaching, Mayor Johnson hopes that this campaign will serve as a reminder for people to shop locally and help preserve the unique character of Chicago's neighborhoods.
In addition to supporting small businesses, BACP's consumer protection efforts ensure that consumers are protected and informed while making the conscious decision to shop local. BACP Commissioner Ivan Capifali emphasizes that now is the time for residents to rediscover what makes Chicago's neighborhoods so special by shopping at local businesses. By doing so, they can help sustain local jobs, support entrepreneurs, and keep their communities strong.

The holiday shopping season unofficially kicks off during Thanksgiving weekend with dedicated days like Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, and Giving Tuesday. This year's Small Business Saturday falls on November 29th and offers a variety of exciting options for holiday shoppers.
According to the Small Business Index, eight out of ten small businesses say that the holiday season is crucial for their overall profit. Additionally, Constant Contact reports that a majority of small businesses rely on holiday shopping for at least one quarter of their annual revenue.
To support and celebrate Chicago's small business community during this crucial period, BACP has planned several initiatives including promoting the ongoing Shop Local Chicago campaign. This campaign highlights the important role small businesses play in Chicago's neighborhoods by providing benefits such as a unique shopping experience, contribution to the workforce, and a boost to the local economy. Residents can learn more about this campaign by visiting Chicago.gov/ShopLocal.
BACP will also be hosting a free webinar, "Holiday Success Strategies: Attracting Customers and Boosting Sales," on November 7th at 9:30 a.m. This webinar aims to provide small businesses with tips and strategies for a successful holiday season. Interested individuals can register at Chicago.gov/BACPwebinars.
