CHICAGO ~ Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson had a busy weekend, attending various events and meetings to engage with the community and discuss important issues. On Saturday morning, Mayor Johnson visited Washington Heights to attend Alderman Ronnie Mosley's Monthly Town Hall. The purpose of the town hall was to gather feedback from constituents on the Protecting Chicago Budget proposal.
During the town hall, Mayor Johnson spoke about his commitment to passing a budget that does not burden working people. The two mayors engaged in a roundtable discussion on Baltimore's violence reduction plan and ways it could be improved. They also discussed critical investments in community violence intervention programs and support for families affected by violence.
During the discussion, Mayor Johnson highlighted the importance of finding alternative approaches to public safety that do not involve armed forces or military tactics. He also expressed disappointment in the lack of support from the federal government in addressing these issues.
On Friday evening, Mayor Johnson attended an event at the Chicago International Film Festival where academy-award winning director Spike Lee was honored with a lifetime achievement award. In his opening remarks, Mayor Johnson praised Lee for his impactful portrayal of Black experiences through film and its impact on communities in Chicago.

In addition to these events, a short clip of Mayor Johnson responding to a question about undocumented immigrants went viral on social media platforms such as Instagram, X, and TikTok over the weekend.
