~ Naperville, IL- On February 23, 2025, Naperville police officers made a significant arrest in their efforts to keep the community safe. Parion Lane, a 23-year-old resident of Aurora, was taken into custody after being found in possession of a loaded handgun and drugs.

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin and Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres held a joint press conference to announce the details of the arrest. According to the officials, Lane appeared in First Appearance Court yesterday morning where Judge Joshua Dieden granted the State's Motion to deny pre-trial release for the two-time convicted felon.

Lane was charged with one count of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Repeat Felony Offender (Class X Felony), one count of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class 4 Felony), and multiple misdemeanor offenses including Resisting a Police Officer. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 24, 2025, in front of Judge Daniel Guerin.

The incident began at approximately 1:00 a.m. when Naperville police officers on patrol near Washington Street and Ogden Avenue noticed a vehicle with expired license plates at a gas station. The officers followed the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop near 14th Avenue and Main Street.

During the stop, one of the officers observed Lane making furtive movements towards the driver's side floorboard. After stopping his vehicle, Lane allegedly exited and fled on foot. He was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.

Upon searching Lane and his vehicle, officers discovered a loaded Springfield 9 mm handgun on the driver's side floorboard as well as sixteen grams of ecstasy on his person. As a convicted felon currently on parole, Lane is prohibited from possessing firearms.

State's Attorney Berlin commended the Naperville Police Department for their proactive work in removing illegally possessed firearms from the streets. He also thanked Assistant State's Attorneys Anna Derkacz and Kevin Kosman for their efforts in preparing a strong case against Lane.

Chief Arres praised the bravery and dedication of the officers involved in the arrest, stating that they put themselves in dangerous situations every day to keep the community safe. He also expressed gratitude to State's Attorney Berlin and his office for their partnership in these efforts.

The public is reminded that Lane is innocent until proven guilty and is entitled to a fair trial where the government must prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. This complaint contains only charges and is not proof of his guilt.

The joint efforts of law enforcement officials have resulted in the removal of an illegally possessed firearm from the streets, potentially preventing it from being used in a crime. The community can rest assured that both the Naperville Police Department and DuPage County State's Attorney's Office are committed to keeping them safe.
