CHICAGO ~ Chicago Park District CEO Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, Mayor Brandon Johnson, and Alderman David Moore (17th) gathered with members of the West Englewood community today to announce the first step towards constructing a new fieldhouse in historic Ogden Park. The park, located at 6500 S. Racine, will undergo a major transformation with the approval of a design contract by the Chicago Park District Board.
The $25 million project will be partially funded by $12 million in City TIF dollars, as well as funds from the Park District and state. This investment marks a new chapter for Ogden Park and its surrounding community.
Mayor Johnson expressed his excitement for the project, stating that it is about more than just creating a space for play and recreation. He believes that it will also foster a sense of belonging and pride within the community. He thanked all those involved in making this project possible and emphasized the importance of investing in both this project and the future of Chicago.

The Board authorized an agreement with Booth Hansen Ltd. to design, construct, and provide administrative services for the new fieldhouse. The current structure, which dates back to 1904, is deteriorating and no longer meets the needs of the West Englewood community. The new fieldhouse will include a gymnasium, dedicated boxing gym, fitness room, dance room, teen room, clubroom, restrooms, storage facilities, offices, and utility rooms.
Park District General Superintendent and CEO Carlos Ramirez-Rosa shared his excitement for this project as well. He believes that park fieldhouses are designed to bring people together and support their wellbeing through recreation opportunities. He also acknowledged that Ogden Park has long been in need of a new fieldhouse that can better serve its active community. As they move into the design phase of this project, he looks forward to engaging with residents and stakeholders to ensure it has a positive impact for generations to come.

Ogden Park currently offers a variety of indoor and outdoor amenities, including a gymnasium, fitness center, boxing gym, dance studio, nature garden, playgrounds, carousel, walking track, swimming pool, baseball diamonds, and basketball and tennis courts. It also offers year-round programming for all ages.
The Park District plans to engage with the community in Spring 2026 to discuss detailed design features for the new fieldhouse.
