CHICAGO - illiNews -- Annual South Side event connected families with health services, school supplies, and community resources ahead of the new school year
CHICAGO, IL — Why We Care NFP, a South Side Chicago nonprofit focused on community and economic development, hosted its 4th Annual Christmas in July Health & Resource Festival on July 25, 2026, connecting more than 247 families and over 312 students with health services, school resources, and community support ahead of the upcoming school year.

"Every year this event reminds us why we do this work," said Tanya Watkins, Founder and Executive Director of Why We Care NFP. "Serving over 247 families and 312 students this year means hundreds of kids are walking into the new school year with what they need, and hundreds of families know there's an organization in their corner. That's what community and economic development looks like on the ground."
The festival is part of Why We Care NFP's broader slate of community programming, which includes its Adopt a Community initiative, Women Evolve Cohorts, and Evolve Entrepreneurial Programs, all aimed at building opportunity and resilience across Chicago's South Side.
