NAPERVILLE, Ill. ~ The Exchange Club of Naperville will be sponsoring the 22nd annual September 11 remembrance event on Monday, Sept. 11, at the Cmdr. Dan Shanower Memorial. The memorial was designed as a tribute to Cmdr. Dan Shanower, a Naperville native and Navy officer who died at his post in the Pentagon on 9/11, as well as all those who died in the terrorist attacks that day. The event will begin at 6 p.m., with music from the Naperville Municipal Band starting at 5:45 p.m., and will take place behind the Naperville Municipal Center along the Riverwalk. In case of rain, it will be held in City Council Chambers.

This year's speaker is Dan Bacso, founding member of American Pride, Inc., and a survivor of the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. He will provide his personal and chronological account of that fateful day. Brief remarks will also be given by Mayor Scott A. Wehrli, Police Chief Jason Arres and Fire Chief Mark Puknaitis.

The memorial was dedicated on Sept. 11, 2003 and is one of the first in the nation to be completed.
