NAPERVILLE, Ill. ~ Naperville, Illinois - On Saturday, October 4th at approximately 7:55 p.m., the Naperville Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a frantic 911 call reporting flames on the roof of a five-story condominium building located in the 100 block of South Washington Street. Upon receiving confirmation from Naperville police officers in the area of visible flames on the rooftop, a general alarm assignment was immediately dispatched.
The response brought 10 pieces of fire apparatus and 24 personnel to the scene. The first fire company arrived at 7:57 p.m. and quickly confirmed an active fire on the roof. In order to access the fire, firefighters deployed hose lines up the stairwell and utilized an aerial ladder. As they advanced towards the fire, crews also worked diligently to ensure all remaining residents were safely evacuated.
After nearly forty minutes of intense firefighting efforts, the blaze was brought under control and declared fully extinguished at 8:34 p.m. Firefighters were able to successfully contain the fire to the area surrounding a vent stack that extended through the roof. As a precautionary measure, personnel remained on scene for an additional thirty minutes to check for any potential hot spots and ensure that the building was safe for residents.

Thankfully, there were no reported injuries to any residents, pets or firefighters as a result of this incident. The building remains habitable despite estimated damages exceeding $20,000.
