NAPERVILLE, Ill. ~ At 2:01 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19, Naperville's Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a call from a resident reporting a structure fire at a single-family residence in the 400 block of Quail Dr. PSAP immediately dispatched a general alarm response to the location, which included three engines, two ladder trucks, one heavy rescue squad, two medic units and two battalion commanders.
Upon arrival at 2:06 a.m., the first unit found a two-story wood-framed single-family residential structure with smoke showing from the exterior. Fire crews conducted an investigation and found a fire in the second-floor ceiling and attic of the home. An offensive interior attack was initiated and ventilation was accomplished by opening up a hole in the roof of the home to allow smoke and heat to exit and assist crews working inside to extinguish the fire.

The Naperville Fire Department was pleased to report that all residents (two adults and two children) were out of the home prior to their arrival, as confirmed by primary and secondary searches. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes of the initial alarm and crews remained on scene for another hour to look for any fire extension and conduct salvage and overhaul operations. The Bolingbrook Fire Department provided Station coverage for Naperville during this incident.
The cause of the fire was determined to be from a bathroom ceiling vent fan that caught fire; however, it is believed that working smoke detectors alerted residents in time for them to evacuate safely before firefighters arrived on scene. Damages to the home are estimated at $30,000 with no injuries reported among firefighters or residents alike; however, due to damages sustained during this incident, it has been deemed uninhabitable at this time.
