Findings show that 91% of surveyed senior IT leaders say there is a major shift in the primary role of the CIO
CHICAGO - illiNews -- York Solutions, a veteran-owned IT consulting firm that uses a non-transactional, value-based approach to provide clients with custom workforce solutions to fit their business needs to successfully complete IT projects, announced findings from a national survey that explored the role of the CIO and the challenges and opportunities that come with the position.
In the second-annual report, the IT workforce experts at York Solutions surveyed 120 senior IT executives from the Think IT Association and found that 91% say the role of the CIO is changing. To succeed in their role, CIOs must shift their priorities from being technologists to being strategists and revenue generators. The findings underscore that CIOs must prioritize increasing their strategic communication, business acumen, and inspiring and leading their teams.

Furthermore, 72% of survey respondents believe that in order for senior IT executives to take the next step in their career, they need to invest in mentorship. By investing in their own mentorship, CIOs will round out the hard and soft skills they need to advance in their role and within their organization.
"In 2020, digital acuity is table stakes. It gets you a seat at the table, but alone, won't ensure long term success," said CEO of York Solutions Richard Walker. "Becoming a CIO who is driving technology-enabled business strategy, actively managing change, while building a collaborative team, takes leadership and know-how. And it takes outside support. Making a commitment to invest in a mentor and a professional development organization will pay dividends."
