~ Chicago-based financial services firm, Mesirow, has recently completed a significant renovation project at its headquarters located at 353 N Clark. The firm, which is independent and employee-owned, made the strategic decision to extend its lease for an additional ten years and this renovation is part of a larger multi-year strategy to optimize their offices globally. This also reaffirms Mesirow's commitment to Chicago and its 88-year presence as a civic and corporate leader.
According to Mesirow CEO Natalie Brown, sustainability and philanthropy were key factors in every decision made during the renovation project. The firm's presence at 353 N Clark remains over 100,000 square feet post-renovation, allowing for efficiency and potential future expansion options. Over the past five years, Mesirow has seen a 7% increase in employee headcount due to strategic acquisitions and hires across the firm in 2023 and 2024.
The renovation project was a collaborative effort between Mesirow, Gensler, and Power Construction. The main goals of the project were to optimize workspace, incorporate one-touch collaboration technologies, and create a multi-use media space for video, podcasting, television, and firmwide communications.

One of the highlights of this project is the positive impact it has had on the community. Through partnerships with 15 Minority and Women-Owned (MWBE) nonprofit businesses, 99% of interiors and supplies from the renovation were donated. This has positively impacted over 1,000 people in Chicago communities. Additionally, over 350 students have been supplied with needed items for fall classes and 30 new classrooms have been stocked.
The renovation also focused on deepening sustainability efforts. More than 80% of furniture was reused or repurposed during the project. In addition, through updated standards such as LED lighting and increased recycling efforts (including becoming the first corporate deskside composting partner with WasteNot Compost), Mesirow has seen a 75% reduction in energy consumption and a 150% increase in recycling. The firm has also furnished 25 apartments for Chicago area families in need and recycled 165,000 pounds of paper.
