Greenhouse Grant further cultivates academic programs rooted in literacy and offers all-season crop growing
MOUNTAIN LAKES, N.J. - illiNews -- Greenhouse Grant further cultivates academic programs rooted in literacy and offers all-season crop growing
Mountain Lakes, New Jersey -
The Craig School was recently awarded $20,000.00 of grant funding by The Summit Foundation to support a new greenhouse to enhance cross-curricular learning for students with learning disabilities [learning differences]. This funding supports the purchase of a greenhouse to expand its beloved gardening program. The school's current program is seasonal and provides reading, writing, and math cross-curricular enhancements that round out students' academic programs. The greenhouse expands the academic reach rooted in literacy and reading for yearlong cross-curricular enrichment.
"The Craig School is pleased to receive this grant award towards a greenhouse and the creation of a signature curriculum for students rooted in literacy and reading across all content areas. A central component of The Craig School Way is the School's focus on "whole child" education and this grant creates a meaningful impact on year-round hands-on learning." said Dr. Kara A. Loftin, Head of School, The Craig School.

The project aims to engage students through active learning projects and hands-on learning experiences fostering collaboration, communication, and critical thinking while increasing student understanding of ecosystems and how they interact with the local environment. An interdisciplinary curriculum will be developed and integrated for each subject area aligning with the goals and objectives of The Craig School's program in daily classroom learning.
At The Craig School, we see firsthand that creative yet structured teaching opportunities and strategies help students learn most effectively. Being able to expand our structured literacy program through the greenhouse project will have a positive effect on student learning outcomes.
