CHICAGO, Oct. 22, 2024 ~ In an effort to address health equity and food insecurity in the Chicago market, Walgreens has announced a partnership with non-profit organization Dion's Chicago Dream. The collaboration will see the installation of a Dream Vault smart locker at Walgreens' Gage Park location at 55th and Kedzie (5435 S. Kedzie Avenue Chicago, IL).
The Dream Vault is part of a joint initiative between Dion's Chicago Dream and Walgreens to provide free, high-quality produce to over 275 households-in-need in the Chicagoland area. This equates to approximately 1,000 residents who will benefit from the program on a weekly basis.
At a press conference held at the Gage Park store, Jessica Griffin of Walgreens and Chief Dreamer Dion Dawson of Dion's Chicago Dream proudly displayed the fresh produce that will be available through the Dream Vault. This collaboration builds upon Walgreens' earlier sponsorship of Dream Deliveries, a weekly fresh produce delivery service for 100 households in the city.
With the addition of the Dream Vault, this partnership will now be able to reach an additional 175 households, achieving their goal of providing support to 275 Chicagoland households-in-need.

Tracey Brown, Executive Vice President and President of Walgreens Retail and Chief Customer Officer, expressed her pride in partnering with Dion's Chicago Dream to support families in the Gage Park neighborhood. As a Chicago-based health and well-being company with almost 125 years of experience, Walgreens is committed to providing essential services such as prescriptions, immunizations, and over-the-counter medications. Brown also highlighted their range of trusted products that promote overall wellness for their customers.
Founder and Chief Dreamer of Dion's Chicago Dream, Dion Dawson shared his personal experience as a returning military veteran struggling to make ends meet. He emphasized that placing their Dream Vaults in locations like Walgreens is crucial as it provides access to necessary goods and services. Dawson's vision is to ensure that participants of the Dream Vault program never have to choose between buying healthy food and other basic needs, such as medication.
According to 2019 data, food insecurity is a significant issue in Gage Park, with nearly 21% of residents lacking reliable access to healthy food. The installation of the Dream Vault at Walgreens on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, aims to address this problem by providing a week-long supply of fresh fruits and vegetables at no cost to participating households within a one-mile radius.
In conclusion, Walgreens' collaboration with Dion's Chicago Dream is a step towards creating a healthier and more vibrant community for everyone. The Dream Vault program at Walgreens' Gage Park location will make a lasting impact on the lives of those in need and promote better health outcomes for the community.
