CHICAGO, Sept. 25, 2025 ~ Chicago, IL - Alliant Credit Union, a leading financial institution, has joined forces with national nonprofit PCs for People to host an electronics donation drive at their Chicago headquarters. The drive was a huge success, collecting a total of 7,084 pounds of retired laptops, desktops and other electronic equipment.
The initiative aimed to engage Alliant employees, members and community partners in contributing devices that will be refurbished and redistributed to families and individuals in the Chicago area who lack access to reliable technology. This partnership between Alliant and PCs for People is part of their efforts to create digital opportunities and expand access to education, employment, and connectivity.
Alliant's new CEO, Mike Dobbins, expressed his excitement about the partnership stating that "As a nonprofit, part of our mandate is to give back, and we do that through our financial products, but it's also important to do that through our human efforts and the efforts of the foundation." He further added that partnering with PCs for People allows them as a digital credit union to directly put technology tools into people's hands and connect those who need it most with essential internet access.

PCs for People specializes in refurbishing retired technology and distributing it at low or no cost to individuals living below the poverty level. The organization also offers affordable internet services to help recipients participate in today's digital economy. This partnership between Alliant and PCs for People includes ongoing collections beyond the recent drive. A dedicated PCs for People truck regularly visits Alliant's headquarters throughout the year to gather retired equipment. These collections help ensure surplus technology is reused rather than discarded.
Apart from providing digital opportunities, this initiative also supports Alliant's sustainability goals by diverting thousands of pounds of electronics from landfills and placing them back into circulation. By doing so, Alliant contributes towards reducing electronic waste and promoting environmentally responsible practices.

This donation drive reflects Alliant's commitment to digital opportunity and its role as a socially responsible financial institution. The partnership between Alliant Credit Union and PCs for People goes beyond just a one-time event, as they continue to collect retired equipment throughout the year. Together, they are making a positive impact on the community by providing essential technology resources to those in need.
