~ Naperville, IL - Two men have been denied pre-trial release after being found in possession of loaded guns at a local recreation facility. DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin and Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres announced today that Judge Demetrios Panoushis granted the State's motion to deny pre-trial release for Dijon Lane, 34, and Tavell Jackson, 44.
Lane, a resident of Blue Island, appeared in First Appearance Court on Saturday and is facing charges of Armed Habitual Criminal (Class X Felony), Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 3 Felony), and Misdemeanor Unlawful Possession of Cannabis by a Driver. Jackson, who resides in Maywood, appeared in First Appearance Court on Sunday and is facing charges of Armed Habitual Criminal (Class X Felony), Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 3 Felony), and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class 4 Felony).
According to the press release issued by the authorities, on March 29th at approximately 6:30 p.m., Naperville police officers were patrolling at Topgolf on Odyssey Court when they detected an odor of cannabis coming from a vehicle. As they observed the vehicle, they saw Lane enter the driver's seat. The officers approached Lane and asked him to exit the vehicle. It is alleged that as Lane exited the vehicle, officers spotted a loaded Taurus .40 caliber PT740 with eight rounds in the magazine tucked near the gas pedal. Lane was taken into custody at this time.

The following day, on March 30th at around 10:05 p.m., officers again patrolling at Topgolf allegedly saw another handgun - later identified as a loaded Taurus 9mm Millenium G2 with twelve rounds in the magazine - in plain view in the netting pocket on the back of the front passenger seat of a vehicle. As they surveilled the vehicle, they saw Jackson enter the rear passenger seat. The officers pinned in the vehicle with their cars and ordered Jackson out. He was taken into custody at this time. During his arrest, officers found 12.4 grams of crack cocaine in his jacket.
State's Attorney Robert Berlin expressed concern over the fact that both men brought loaded firearms to a family-friendly recreation facility, stating that it is "inexcusable" and will be fully prosecuted. He commended the Naperville Police Department for their proactive efforts in removing dangerous weapons from the streets and thanked Assistant State's Attorneys Michael Pingaj, Michael Paup, and Philip Ungar for their work in securing charges against Lane and Jackson.

Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres also praised his staff for their commitment to making the community safer and thanked State's Attorney Berlin and his office for their support in this matter.
Lane's next court appearance is scheduled for April 22nd for arraignment in front of Judge Margaret O'Connell, while Jackson's next court appearance is set for April 29th also for arraignment in front of Judge O'Connell.
The public is reminded that these are only charges and do not prove guilt. Both defendants are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial where it is up to the government to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
