This year digitalKENTE® design studio and online shop celebrates the indigo resist-dye printing techniques called adire of Western Africa and batik of S.E. Asia.
CHICAGO - illiNews -- The new digitalADIRE print collection pays homage to the rich heritage of àdìre (a traditional Nigerian Yoruba tie-and-dye printing method using cassava paste illustrations working against indigo dye), S.E. Asian batik (a traditional Indonesian Java wax-resist printing method using indigo dye), and the history of enslaved Africans' back-breaking work to harvest indigo in South Carolina and New Orleans.
The deep range of indigo plant hues, and intricate patterns of traditional àdìre and batik designs serve as the foundation of 3 print motifs: Indigo ADIRE (blue), Elu ALABERE (green), and Royal BATIK (purple), creating a fusion of traditional and modern aesthetics.
Find these new prints online applied to their athleisure apparel sold exclusively at: https://digitalkenteshop.com/
The digitalADIRE Photoshop Brushes serve the unique textile design market or any digital artist interested in exploring the technique of the African Diaspora. Similar to Shibori in Japan, or intricate patterns of the Hmong tribe in Vietnam, Adire is created from resist indigo dying, with specific symbols and motifs that celebrate traditional Yoruba culture. Currently, there is no other design studio that celebrates African culture and brings it to the modern design world the way digitalKENTE is doing right now.
