CHICAGO - illiNews -- The Hemingway District Oak Park is getting ready for a weekend celebration commemorating Ernest Hemingway's 125th birthday. Born July 21, 1899, in Oak Park, IL, Ernest Hemingway was a critically acclaimed American writer and storyteller known for his profound and concise writing style that revolutionized American Literature earning him the Pulitzer Prize in 1953 and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954. Celebrate this hometown legend and his zest for life and adventure with a series of fun activities. Hemingway's Birthday Fête will be a memorable celebratory feast for the senses…for all ages.

* Saturday, July 20 – Hemingway Scavenger Hunt in the Hemingway District
The Scavenger Hunt starts Saturday at 10:00am and ends on Sunday, July 21st at 5:00pm. Join the Hemingway Scavenger Hunt and scan QR codes at local shops (nothing to download). Answer Hemingway questions and earn points to win cool  prizes. Take photos of any purchase, post, and tag to earn extra points. Winners  will be announced Sunday at the Summer Concert Series and Birthday Celebration at Scoville Park.

'Running with the Bulls' Kids Fun Run in Scoville Park from 10:00am – 12:00pm. Children can design and decorate a cardboard bull and race around the park as friends and family cheer! An artistic and family-fueled event. Please meet at the  War Memorial in Scoville Park at 10:00am. Sponsored by The Collaboration for Early Childhood, The Hemingway Foundation and Lively Athletics.

Concert on the Porch at Hemingway Birthplace Museum from 7:00pm – 9:00pm
Featuring Nora O'Connor and Steve Dawson. Student scholarship recipients will be acknowledged, and writers-in-residence will be announced. Secure your ticket for general lawn seating by the porch and feel free to bring your lawn chair. Refreshments will be available.

* Sunday, July 21– Hemingway Scavenger Continues. ...and 'Happy 125th Birthday Ernest Hemingway!'
From 5:00pm – 7:30pm, join the celebration with Hemingway District collaborators in Scoville Park.  Spin the celebratory wheel, win prizes, and gift  cards. Sing Happy Birthday to Ernest Hemingway at 5:55pm and then listen to the indie/alternative beats of Echo Track. Sponsored by The Hemingway District and the Park District of Oak Park.
