NAPERVILLE, Ill. ~ Naperville's Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a call at 11:37 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, reporting smoke coming from the balcony of a three-story apartment building in the 1500 Block of W. Jefferson Avenue. In response, ECC immediately dispatched a general alarm assignment to the location.
The general alarm assignment consisted of three engines, two ladder trucks, one heavy rescue squad, two medic units, and two battalion commanders. At 11:41 a.m., Naperville Battalion 1 arrived on the scene and reported smoke showing from the front of the building. Upon arrival, first-arriving companies completed a thorough survey of the structure and provided an on-scene report. They also established command and began fire operations.
Fire department companies discovered fire on a second-floor balcony of the complex and quickly initiated suppression efforts. Hose lines were stretched to the balcony as crews worked to contain and extinguish the fire. Additionally, four occupants of the complex were safely evacuated by crews on scene.

Within just 15 minutes of arrival, fire department personnel were able to fully extinguish the fire by deploying hose lines to its origin. Companies remained on scene for an additional hour to assist with building maintenance and conduct overhaul operations.
Assisting on the scene were Naperville Police Department and City of Naperville's Transportation and Engineering Department. The Aurora Fire Department also provided station coverage during the incident.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by Naperville Fire Department's investigations team. The estimated damage to the home is $30,000 but fortunately no injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters as a result of this incident.
According to officials, despite some damage to the unit where the fire originated, the entire building complex is habitable and suitable for occupancy. The swift response and efficient actions taken by emergency personnel helped prevent further damage and ensure everyone's safety during this incident.
