~ Naperville Police Department Joins Statewide Effort to Crack Down on Impaired and Unbuckled Drivers During Independence Day

The Naperville Police Department has announced their participation in an Independence Day traffic enforcement campaign, which will run through July 6. The campaign will focus on targeting impaired and unbuckled drivers in an effort to keep the roads safe during the holiday celebrations.

According to Naperville Police Sgt. Eric Muska, the department is urging all residents and visitors to celebrate Independence Day responsibly. "It's simple: If you're driving, don't drink or use drugs," said Sgt. Muska. "Our officers will be out in full force to keep impaired drivers off the road."

The Naperville Police Department will be working alongside the Illinois State Police and over 200 local police and sheriff's departments as part of this statewide enforcement effort.

Sgt. Muska also emphasized the importance of having a designated sober driver on Fourth of July celebrations. "Designate a sober driver and don't let friends or family members drive under the influence," he said.

In addition, the department has shared some important tips for staying safe on the roads during this holiday period. These include giving your designated driver your keys before going out, using alternative modes of transportation such as taxis or ride-sharing services if you are impaired, promptly reporting drunk drivers by calling 911, and ensuring that everyone in your vehicle wears their seat belt.

The Illinois Independence Day enforcement campaign is funded by federal highway safety dollars administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation and is supported by both state and local law enforcement agencies. It is further reinforced by IDOT's "It's Not a Game" media campaign, which shares real stories of Illinois residents who have lost their lives in fatal crashes.
