~ Naperville, IL - Two men have been charged with illegal street racing that resulted in a serious crash and injuries to two passengers, according to DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin and Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres.

After an extensive investigation, 18-year-old Jadon Ramirez of Bensenville and 23-year-old Sahil Chauhan of Lisle have each been charged with one count of Aggravated Street Racing and one count of Aggravated Reckless Driving Causing Great Bodily Harm. Both charges are Class 4 felonies.

On April 26, 2025, at approximately 12:06 a.m., Naperville Police responded to a vehicle crash in front of the Courtyard Marriott on E. Diehl Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a black 2006 Mercedes CLS500, allegedly driven by Ramirez, had crashed into a tree after swerving during an illegal street race.

Two passengers in the Mercedes were seriously injured and had been ejected from the vehicle. One victim, a seventeen-year-old male, was unconscious at the scene and suffered internal brain bleeding, a punctured lung, broken ribs, a broken vertebrae and scapula. The second victim, an eighteen-year-old male, suffered a broken arm. Both were immediately transported to a local hospital for medical attention.

Further investigation revealed that Chauhan was driving a blue 2024 Acura ZDX when Ramirez stopped next to him and gestured for a race. The pair allegedly raced twice before Ramirez lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the tree.

On June 27th, Ramirez appeared in First Appearance Court where the State's motion to detain him pre-trial was granted. Chauhan appeared in court yesterday where the motion to detain him pre-trial was denied.

State's Attorney Berlin expressed his concern over the dangerous nature of street racing and thanked the Naperville Police Department for their efforts in this case. He also commended Assistant State's Attorneys Alyssa Rabulinski, Sean Kinsella, and Michael Pingaj for their work in preparing a strong case against the defendants.

Chief Arres echoed Berlin's sentiments and emphasized the responsibility that comes with driving. He stated that there is no excuse for the reckless behavior exhibited by the accused and thanked the State's Attorney's office for their assistance in holding them accountable.

Ramirez is scheduled to appear in court on July 18, 2025, while Chauhan's next court appearance is scheduled for July 28, 2025.

It is important to note that these charges are only allegations and do not prove guilt. The defendants are presumed innocent and have the right to a fair trial where it is the government's burden to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The public is reminded of the dangers of street racing and urged to report any suspicious or illegal activity on the roads.
