~ As college freshmen across the country prepare for their move-in day, the Naperville Police Department is taking steps to ensure their safety. The department will be hosting a webinar titled "Safety for the College-Bound Student" on Thursday, July 31 at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, with no registration required.
The webinar will cover important topics such as drug and alcohol education and personal safety information. It aims to equip both students and their parents with the necessary knowledge and skills to keep themselves safe while on campus.
According to Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres, this is the first time the department will be presenting this topic in a webinar format. He hopes that this new approach will allow more families to participate and learn about keeping young adults safe while away from home.

Chief Arres also emphasized that although Naperville is a safe community, students can develop a false sense of security. This webinar will provide them with strong crime prevention strategies and make them aware of potential dangers they may encounter on campus.
The presentation will cover essential information about personal safety, drugs, and alcohol. Presenters will engage in candid discussions about the challenges faced by new college students and help them understand the consequences of their decisions. They will also stress the importance of situational awareness and responsible behavior in keeping oneself and one's property safe.
For those who are unable to attend the live webinar, a recording will be made available on the City's website afterwards. Residents without access to Zoom can still view the webinar through their internet browser by selecting the "Join from your browser" option.
As move-in day approaches for many college freshmen, it is crucial for them to be equipped with knowledge about staying safe while away from home. The Naperville Police Department's webinar aims to do just that by providing valuable information and strategies for both students and parents.
