~ Naperville City Councilwoman Allison Longenbaugh has announced her resignation from her position on the council, effective Monday, August 25. The decision comes after Longenbaugh accepted a new professional opportunity in the private sector that does not allow her to hold an elected position.
In a statement released on Tuesday, August 19, Longenbaugh expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve the community and thanked her colleagues and city staff for their collaboration and support. She also reflected on her time as a council member, highlighting her dedication to attending numerous events and meetings in order to connect with residents and fulfill her responsibility as their elected representative.
Longenbaugh's tenure on the council began in 2023 and during her time in office, she served as a liaison to various commissions and boards including the Advisory Commission on Disabilities, Special Events and Community Arts Commission, Sister Cities Commission, and Transportation Advisory Board. Prior to being elected, she was actively involved in the community through volunteering as a Girl Scout Leader at Ellsworth Elementary, co-chairing a festival benefiting Ellsworth's Home & School organization, serving as an elected precinct committee woman in Lisle Township, and participating in the League of Women Voters Observer Corps.

Mayor Scott Wehrli praised Longenbaugh for her contributions during her time on the council. He commended her for consistently asking tough questions, promoting accountability, and conducting herself with grace and professionalism. He also acknowledged that while her time on the council was shorter than expected, her impact will be felt for years to come.
With Longenbaugh's resignation leaving a vacancy on the council until May 2027, the City Council will appoint an individual during a meeting on or before October 21. This individual will serve out the remainder of Longenbaugh's term.
The City Council encourages interested individuals to apply for this appointment by submitting an application by September 30. The application can be found on the city's website or by contacting the City Clerk's office.
The community of Naperville thanks Councilwoman Allison Longenbaugh for her service and wishes her the best in her future endeavors.
