CHICAGO ~ Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has announced the appointment of Angela J. Green as the new Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Family & Support Services (DFSS). With over 25 years of executive experience in nonprofit, state, and federal systems, Green is a highly respected human services administrator on a national level.

In her most recent role as Regional Administrator for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Green oversaw federal human services operations across six Midwestern states and 35 Tribal Nations. Her extensive experience working at all levels of government makes her uniquely qualified to lead DFSS and address the needs of working families in Chicago.

Mayor Johnson expressed his confidence in Green's abilities, stating, "With in-depth experience working at every level of government, Angela brings unparalleled knowledge and expertise to this vital role." He also highlighted her commitment to creating equitable solutions for vulnerable populations as a key factor in her appointment.

During her time at ACF, Green implemented data-informed solutions that improved human service delivery systems. She spearheaded initiatives such as ACF's Annual Midwest Economic Mobility Summit, which has been recognized as an incubator for state innovation in economic mobility for vulnerable populations. She also led efforts focused on whole-family well-being, early care workforce stabilization, housing solutions for human trafficking survivors, and homelessness prevention.

Prior to her role at ACF, Green served as Deputy Director of Practice Support for the Indiana Department of Child Services, where she modernized the state's child welfare infrastructure and improved usability of the case management system for frontline staff. She also held the position of Vice President at Children's Bureau, Inc., where she developed Indiana's first community-based child abuse prevention initiative.

Green holds a Master of Social Work from Indiana University and is a Senior Executive Fellow with Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. Her impressive qualifications and experience make her a valuable addition to the DFSS team and a leader who is well-equipped to fulfill the department's mission of connecting Chicago residents and families to resources that promote stability, well-being, and empowerment.
