SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - May 14, 2019 - illiNews -- "Second HUMAN NATURE-2019-China"· Zhengzhou International Sculpture Exhibition, held jointly by the China Sculpture Institute and Zhengzhou Municipal People's Government, announced that the American artist, Michael Dunbar, was one of ten International Sculptors invited to create monumental works of art for the September 2019 exhibition.
Standing 23 ft tall and weighing four tons, the white painted steel sculpture, "MOON TRANSIT", address's Dunbar's ongoing investigation into the images of scientific equipment instrumental in the evolution and advancement of civilization. "Through complex interlocking connections and repetitive forms, "MOON TRANSIT" implies a sense of animation and levitation as if captured in a moment of action."
Born in Santa Paula, California in 1947, Dunbar lives and works in America's heartland, in Springfield, Illinois. Working as a professional sculptor for over four decades, Dunbar has created more than 40 large-scale outdoor sculptures for corporate headquarters, universities, sculpture parks, and public plazas throughout the country. His largest is the bronze sculpture, Euclid's Cross that stands 21 ft. tall, and weighs 14 tons located at the Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park in Hamilton, Ohio.

Dunbar has received numerous awards of distinction including a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. In 2016, Dunbar's sculpture, "Iron Mountain", was selected for the "Special Honor Award" at the 5thChina, WuhuLiu Kaiqu International Sculpture Exhibition, and was purchased for the permanent collection of the Wuhu Sculpture Parkin Wuhu, China. Michael Dunbar was featured in the solo exhibition "Future Vision Past" (2017) at Findlay Gallery in New York.
