NAPERVILLE, Ill. — At 10:22 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, Naperville's Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call for the report of a fire in the caller's single-family residence located on the 900 block of Darius Lane. Naperville 911(PSAP) dispatched a general alarm assignment to the reported address, which brought 10 pieces of fire apparatus and 24 fire personnel to the scene.

The first unit arrived on scene at 10:27 a.m. reporting a fire in the attached garage of the building and confirmed that the lone occupant had exited safely. An aggressive interior fire attack was initiated by the members of Engine Company 2 and Medic 2 through an exterior door to the garage. With assistance from additional fire companies, the fire was extinguished, a search of the residence was completed and salvage and overhaul operations were performed. An inspector from Naperville's Transportation Engineering and Development (TED) was also notified and determined that the residence was still habitable. The cause of the fire was investigated by personnel from the Naperville Fire Department and determined to be accidental. Instruction by PSAP telecommunicators were given to the caller to ensure all doors, including the overhead garage door, remained closed as they exited the residence. This contributed to a significantly lesser amount of damage being caused by the fire and the residence remaining habitable.
