NAPERVILLE, Ill. ~ On Saturday, May 6th at 6:47 p.m., Naperville's Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a call about a possible structure fire at a residential occupancy in the 300 block of Waxwing Avenue. In response, PSAP dispatched three engines, two ladder trucks, one heavy rescue squad, two medic units and two battalion commanders.

Squad 8 arrived on scene within four minutes and found a two-story wood-framed multifamily residential structure with smoke emanating from the rear of the home. First-arriving companies completed a 360-degree survey of the occupancy and found a fire on an attached deck in the rear of the home. Fire crews stretched a 1 3/4-inch handline to the rear of the structure and had the fire out within five minutes of arrival. All occupants had evacuated before NFD's arrival. Overhaul operations revealed no fire extension into the main structure. Fire crews remained on scene for 30 minutes to look for any fire extension and assist homeowners.
