NAPERVILLE, Ill. ~ On Sunday, July 14, at 11:29 p.m., the Naperville Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a call regarding smoke in a residential structure on Schumacher Lane. The ECC immediately dispatched a full still assignment, consisting of two engines, one ladder truck, one medic unit, and two battalion commanders.
As the units were en route, the ECC received a report of flames being seen. In response to this new information, the alarm was upgraded to a general alarm. This added one heavy rescue, an additional medic unit, ladder truck, and engine to the response team.
At 11:33 p.m., the first fire suppression companies arrived at the scene and reported smoke and visible fire coming from the roof line of the structure. Upon arrival, they completed a thorough survey of the building and provided an on-scene report. They also established command and began fire operations.

Fortunately, all occupants of the home were able to safely exit before the fire department arrived. Fire companies immediately initiated offensive fire operations by deploying handlines and conducting an interior primary search. They also worked to limit fire spread and ensure that no neighboring structures were damaged.
Within 15 minutes, the fire was under control thanks to the swift actions of the Naperville Fire Department. However, they remained on scene for an hour to secure the residence and ensure that there were no remaining hazards.
The Naperville Police Department and Naperville Electric Department also provided assistance at the scene. After investigation, it was determined that storm-related causes sparked the fire. The estimated damage to the home is $150,000 and it has been deemed uninhabitable. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported for both civilians and firefighters involved in this incident.
The quick response and efficient actions of all involved parties helped prevent further damage or injuries from occurring. The Naperville Fire Department reminds residents to always be vigilant during severe weather conditions to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
