- Naperville: Construction Commences on North Central College Riverwalk Park
~ Naperville, IL - The City of Naperville has announced that maintenance work will begin on the upper levels of two parking decks in the downtown area. The projects, which are part of a multi-year plan to ensure the sustainability of the parking facilities, will be carried out in partnership with J.Gill and Company.
Starting on Tuesday, September 3rd, the Municipal Center Parking Deck located at 400 S. Eagle St. and the Van Buren Parking Deck located at 43 W. Van Buren Ave will undergo maintenance work. The city expects all work to be completed and all parking spaces to be available by the end of October 2024, pending weather and unforeseen circumstances.
The Municipal Center Parking Deck's upper level will undergo concrete surface repairs, ADA sidewalk repairs, and joint sealant work in two phases. The east side of the upper level will be closed starting on September 3rd while work is being carried out. Once this phase is complete, work will move to the west side of the upper level. Due to safety concerns, no parking will be available on the portion of the deck where work is being performed. Each phase is expected to take approximately four weeks to complete.

While most entrances to the upper level will remain open during construction, there may be isolated closures when necessary to complete work. At least one entrance will remain open at all times and efforts will be made to maintain accessible parking spaces with a goal of keeping at least four spaces available on the upper level. Visitors are encouraged to use publicly available parking spaces in the Water Street Parking Facility at 120 S. Water St., across from the Municipal Center.
The Van Buren Parking Deck's maintenance work will begin during the week of September 3rd and consist of power-washing, concrete repairs, and paint touch-ups. Crews will start by power-washing one level at a time, beginning with the fifth level. This work is expected to take two to three weeks, with some work potentially taking place overnight. Once complete, crews will move on to concrete repairs and painting touch-ups throughout the deck. Closed areas will be marked with signs and motorists are advised to follow detours and closures.
