~ Naperville Police have announced their participation in an Independence Day traffic enforcement campaign aimed at promoting safe driving practices and cracking down on impaired and unbuckled drivers. The campaign, which will run through July 7, is a joint effort with the Illinois State Police and over 200 local police and sheriff's departments.

According to Naperville Police Sgt. Derek Zook, the main goal of this campaign is to ensure that all residents and visitors celebrate Independence Day safely. "It's simple: If you're driving, don't drink or use any impairing substances," said Sgt. Zook. "Our officers will be working diligently to keep impaired drivers off the road and ensure everyone is buckled up."

To promote safe driving habits, the Naperville Police are urging individuals to designate a sober driver before heading out for celebrations. They also advise against letting friends or family members drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Other important tips include giving your designated driver your keys before going out, using alternative modes of transportation such as taxis or ride-sharing services if impaired, promptly reporting impaired drivers by calling 911, and ensuring that everyone in the vehicle wears their seatbelt.

The enforcement efforts are made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). These efforts are further supported by IDOT's "It's Not a Game" media campaign, which highlights the serious consequences of impaired driving and other unsafe behaviors on the road.

The campaigns being implemented by Naperville Police include "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over," "Drive High Get a DUI," and "Click It or Ticket." These initiatives aim to raise awareness about the importance of responsible driving and encourage individuals to make safe choices while on the road.

As Independence Day approaches, Naperville Police are reminding everyone to prioritize safety above all else. By following these simple tips and being responsible behind the wheel, we can all contribute towards making our roads safer for everyone.
