A 365+ Day Commentary On (In)Justice In America and Abroad Poetry In the Age of Social Media
CHICAGO - illiNews -- Khari B. launches
Haiku 4 Justice: A 365+ Day Commentary On (In)Justice In America and Abroad
By Victoria Fisher, Discopoetry Liaison
July 1, 2019
Chicago, IL – Spoken word musician and Chicago-based arts innovator, Discopoet Khari B.releases his long awaited debut title, "Haiku 4 Justice," a collection of over 400 haiku poems written in over as many days around issues of social justice and influenced by the hashtag culture of social media news. The 17-syllable works range from the incendiary to the celebratory – describing countless accounts of police brutality, murders and the ensuing trials and the moments of triumph and community uplift around the world. The very format of haiku forces a frankness in Khari's approach, to which those who have previously experienced his performances will find familiar. The book includes a touch and co-sign by the literary giant Sonia Sanchez and the founder of Haiku Fest, Regina Baiocchi with the foreword written by poetic powerhouse and executive producer of "Black WOMEN Rock!," jessica Care moore. Haiku 4 Justice is published on Khari's own imprint, Discopoetry Publishing.
