~ Naperville Police Joins Statewide Efforts to Combat Distracted Driving
In recognition of Distracted Driving Awareness Month, the Naperville Police has teamed up with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the Illinois State Police, and over 200 local law enforcement agencies to increase enforcement efforts across the state.
According to Illinois law, using a phone in any way other than hands-free mode while driving is not only dangerous, but also illegal. The message is clear: put your phone away or face consequences.
Sgt. Derek Zook of the Naperville Police emphasized the importance of staying focused behind the wheel and urged everyone's support in making roads safer. "We're excited to support IDOT's efforts in educating all road users about the importance of putting your phone away, setting your navigation before your trip begins, and driving distraction-free," he stated.

The prevalence of people using their phones while driving has become a concerning issue. "It has become all too common to see people driving down the road while looking at their phones," Sgt. Zook expressed. Despite knowing that texting and driving is both dangerous and illegal, many still engage in this risky behavior, putting themselves and others at risk.
To combat this issue, law enforcement officers will be increasing their presence on the roads during April and issuing tickets to anyone caught violating distracted driving laws or other motor vehicle laws in Illinois. The campaign is funded by federal traffic safety funds administered by IDOT.
The Naperville Police urges all drivers to prioritize safety on the roads by avoiding distractions and focusing on their surroundings while behind the wheel. Let's work together to make our roads safer for everyone.
