CHICAGO - illiNews -- Samson Atlantic LLC is extremely honored to announce that Ambassador (ret.) Ian Kelly has joined our Advisory Board. Ambassador Kelly served as the United States Ambassador to Georgia from 2015 to 2018 and served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) from 2010 to 2013. Prior to these ambassadorships, Ambassador Kelly held a variety of high-level positions at the U.S. State Department, including serving as Secretary Clinton's spokesman (2009-2010). He has extensive experience working on issues relating to NATO, Russia, the Caucasus, Central Asia, and the Balkans. "Ambassador Kelly has a keen understanding of international relations. He brings tremendous insight into how governments function and interact and has a remarkable ability to identify trends and key risk factors in a volatile global environment," highlighted Kirk Samson, CEO of Samson Atlantic. "His experience and passion for research on international issues will be an immense benefit to the firm and our clients."

Before beginning his career at the State Department, Ambassador Kelly taught at Columbia University in Slavic Languages and Literatures. After joining the Foreign Service, he served in a variety of positions, including in Belgrade, Leningrad, Moscow, Ankara, Rome and the U.S. Mission to NATO in Brussels. Ambassador Kelly was involved in setting up embassies across the former Soviet Republics, a task that took him to all 15 newly independent states. Ambassador Kelly has a PhD from Columbia University, an MA from Northwestern and did his undergraduate work at St. Olaf College. He speaks Russian, Italian, Serbo-Croatian and Turkish. He currently is the Ambassador in Residence at Northwestern University where he teaches courses on "The Fall of the USSR and the Rise of Russia" and "Controlling the Russian Narrative, from Stalin to Putin." Ambassador Kelly is a native of Chicago.
