CHICAGO ~ Chicago's O'Hare International Airport has broken records once again, welcoming over 8 million passengers in June 2025. This marks the highest number of passengers for the month of June in the airport's 70-year history and the second-busiest month ever. Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) announced this impressive feat today, attributing it to a surge in summer travel.

Mayor Johnson expressed his pride in Chicago's role as a critical travel hub, stating, "As we welcome millions of travelers to our city, we proudly position Chicago not just as the world-class destination it is, but as a world-class gateway to destinations across the globe."

CDA Commissioner Michael J. McMurray also shared his excitement about O'Hare's record-breaking numbers, saying, "The record-breaking passenger volumes we're seeing at O'Hare are a clear sign that travel to and from Chicago is not just back - it's booming." He also acknowledged the strong partnerships with hub carriers and other airline partners that have contributed to this success.

According to newly released data from the CDA, O'Hare saw 8.04 million passengers in June 2025 - an increase of 8.72% from June 2024 and just shy of the all-time monthly record set in July 2019.

In addition to passenger numbers, flight operations at O'Hare have also seen a significant increase. In June alone, there were over 77,000 takeoffs and landings - a jump of 13.45% from June 2024. For the first half of 2025, there have been over 407,000 flight operations at O'Hare - a year-over-year increase of 10.4%.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints at O'Hare have also been breaking records since June. Nine out of the top ten busiest days at TSA checkpoints have occurred since June 19, with a new all-time high of 117,871 passengers screened on Monday, August 4, 2025.

This summer is shaping up to be the busiest in the history of Chicago's airports. Airlines have scheduled nearly 17.8 million departing seats from O'Hare and Midway between June and August - a 7% increase from last year and a 4% increase from 2019, which was O'Hare's busiest year ever. Together, O'Hare and Midway will serve a total of 265 destinations worldwide - an increase from 250 destinations last summer.

With these impressive numbers, it is clear that Chicago's airports are thriving and continue to play a crucial role in the travel industry. As travelers flock to the city for business or leisure, O'Hare International Airport remains a top choice for its convenient location and extensive flight options.
