CHICAGO - illiNews -- Chicagoland artist Chris The Wiz opens 2026 with Can't Tell, a three-track EP produced entirely by MAYHEM. Built around blown-out 808s, distorted percussion, and immersive cloud rap production, the project balances crushing instrumentals with a calm, deliberate vocal presence, creating tension between sonic intensity and emotional detachment.
The title track, "Can't Tell," anchors the EP with hypnotic melodies and introspective writing that drifts between memory, intoxication, and emotional uncertainty. Opening with the repeated line, "I can't tell if I think about you," the track explores blurred states of mind where longing, isolation, and chemical escape become increasingly difficult to separate. Rather than building toward a clear resolution, the lyrics cycle through fragmented thoughts that reinforce the feeling of being mentally suspended between clarity and dissociation.

Across the EP, Chris The Wiz delivers each performance with measured control, allowing the production to carry much of the project's force. His collected vocal delivery cuts through MAYHEM's towering low end and saturated textures without competing against them, giving each track an understated confidence that contrasts with the instrumentals' relentless weight. Ghostly vocal layers, spacious reverb, and subtle melodic inflections further deepen the project's immersive atmosphere.
The EP expands its energy with "Open Da Shi," featuring D.R.O., before closing with "FTB," a raw and confrontational freestyle finale built around repetitive hooks, distorted bass, and uncompromising momentum. While each track approaches that intensity differently, they remain unified through MAYHEM's production, which blends atmospheric melodies with abrasive trap drums and heavy low-frequency pressure into a cohesive sonic identity.

Across its three tracks, Can't Tell embraces contrast at every level. Crushing production collides with composed performances, while emotionally conflicted writing unfolds over distorted, atmospheric instrumentals. The result is a concise project that captures another evolution of Chris The Wiz's sound while pushing it into darker, heavier territory.
