CHICAGO ~ Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Office of Immigrant, Migrant, and Refugee Rights (IMRR) have announced the launch of two new initiatives aimed at protecting and empowering immigrant and refugee communities. The first initiative is an expansion of the City's Know Your Rights (KYR) Campaign, while the second is a new Family Preparedness Campaign (FPC).

The KYR Campaign has been ongoing in Chicago, providing resources and information to help families stay informed about their rights. Now, with the FPC, IMRR is taking proactive steps to prepare families for potential family separation due to increased immigration enforcement and possible National Guard deployment.

Mayor Johnson emphasized the importance of keeping families informed and prepared during these uncertain times. "My administration will not allow our communities to be consumed by fear and uncertainty," he stated. "We will continue to provide updated information so that all of the families of Chicago are prepared."

Deputy Mayor for Immigrant, Migrant, and Refugee Rights Beatriz Ponce de León echoed this sentiment, stating that it is critical for Chicagoans to be informed and empowered to make decisions for themselves and their loved ones.

The FPC's guiding principles are "Stay Informed, Be Prepared, and Stay Connected." To help families achieve these goals, IMMR has provided key resources such as printable Family Preparedness Plan packets in multiple languages, infographics with trusted resources and community contacts, and workshops hosted in partnership with organizations like the Chicago Legal Protection Fund and the Chicago Public Library.

IMMR will also be hosting virtual Family Preparedness workshops every Thursday evening throughout September. Residents can register for these webinars online or visit IMMR's newly enhanced website at www.chicago.gov/IMRR.

The upgraded website offers step-by-step guidance for immigrant families and individuals in a user-friendly format with clear visuals. It also provides tailored resources specifically for immigrant and refugee communities.

For more information on these initiatives or to contact the Office of Immigrant, Migrant, and Refugee Rights, visit www.chicago.gov or email imrr@cityofchicago.org. The City of Chicago is committed to protecting and supporting its immigrant and refugee residents during these challenging times.
