Naperville, Ill. ~ Naperville's City Council has announced that they will be appointing a new member to fill the recently vacated City Council seat. The resolution to appoint Supna Jain will be added to the Sept. 16 City Council agenda and if passed, Jain will immediately be sworn in and serve the remaining 18 months of the term, which ends in April 2027.
Jain is currently the vice president of the Indian Prairie School District (IPSD) 204 Board of Education and was first elected to the board in 2021. She was re-elected in April 2025 and has been dedicated to strengthening public education and building community partnerships during her time on the board. Her focus has been on important issues such as student mental health, academic rigor, and the successful results of the district's bond referendum in 2024.
Aside from her role on the school board, Jain is also a Principal Lecturer in Communication & Media Studies and Faculty Director of the Center for the Advancement of Faculty Excellence at North Central College. She holds a Juris Doctor from DePaul University and a M.S. in Communications Studies from Illinois State University. As a second-generation Indian American, wife, and mother to two teenage boys, Jain is deeply rooted in her community. She also teaches Indian dance at the Naperville Park District and is the Founder and Artistic Director of a nonprofit dance troupe.

In response to her appointment, Jain expressed her gratitude for this opportunity to serve her community. She stated, "I've always believed in the African proverb 'It takes a village to raise a child.' While I will miss serving on the school board, I am thrilled to have this chance to put a new twist on that proverb and help build a strong future for this amazing city - our village - so that all residents can thrive." Jain also thanked the City Council for entrusting her with this responsibility.
The vacancy on the City Council was created when former Councilwoman Longenbaugh resigned on August 25. She accepted a new professional opportunity in the private sector that did not allow her to continue holding an elected position.
