NAPERVILLE, Ill. ~ Naperville's Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a call at 10:36 a.m. on Monday, April 28, reporting a fire at a residence in the area. A second caller informed the ECC that the fire was located in the attached garage of the home and that there may still be occupants inside. In response, a general alarm was dispatched, consisting of 10 pieces of fire apparatus and 24 personnel.
As fire crews were en route to the scene, neighbors took action and alerted the residents to the danger. They also assisted in safely evacuating them from the home. At 10:40 a.m., the first fire company arrived on site and encountered heavy smoke and flames at the rear of the residence.
The firefighters quickly deployed multiple hose lines to contain and extinguish the fire. During their primary search of the structure, they were able to locate and rescue one of the family's dogs who was still inside.

After approximately 43 minutes, at 11:23 a.m., the fire was brought under control and deemed extinguished. However, fire personnel remained on scene for an additional 15 minutes to ensure there were no remaining hot spots. The majority of damage was contained to the garage area and roof.
Thankfully, there were no injuries reported among residents, pets or firefighters. However, due to extensive damage caused by the fire, Naperville's Transportation, Engineering, and Development Team has declared the building uninhabitable. The estimated cost of damages is $100,000.
The blaze has displaced three adults, two children and two dogs from their home. The cause of this incident is currently under investigation by authorities.
Assisting at the scene were members from Naperville Police Department and Naperville Animal Control. Station coverage during this incident was provided by Lisle-Woodridge and Aurora Fire Departments.
This serves as a reminder for all residents to have working smoke detectors in their homes and to always have an evacuation plan in case of emergencies. The Naperville Fire Department urges everyone to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent fires.
