Naperville: Scots Drive Vehicle Fire

NAPERVILLE, Ill. ~ Naperville, Illinois - In the early hours of Tuesday, August 12th, the Naperville Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a frantic 911 call from a concerned neighbor. The caller reported a vehicle on fire in the driveway of a townhome located in the 500 block of Scots Drive. The caller also expressed concern that the flames were dangerously close to the residence.

Upon receiving the call at 12:46 a.m., the ECC immediately dispatched a full still alarm assignment, consisting of two engines, one ladder truck, one medic unit, and two battalion chiefs. Fortunately, all occupants had safely evacuated before the fire department's arrival.

The first suppression company arrived at the scene to find a fully engulfed vehicle with flames spreading to the nearby home. The situation was quickly upgraded to a general alarm, prompting an additional engine, ladder truck, medic unit, and heavy rescue team to be dispatched.

Upon arrival, initial crews conducted a thorough survey of the area and provided an on-scene report. They also established command and began fire suppression operations. Multiple handlines were deployed and a primary search confirmed that no one was left inside the structure.

After approximately 25 minutes of intense firefighting efforts, at 1:11 a.m., the fire was declared under control. Crews remained on scene for an additional 30 minutes to fully extinguish any remaining hot spots. The DuPage County Sheriff's Office provided assistance during this time.

According to reports from DuPage County building inspectors, damage is estimated at $110,000 and deemed uninhabitable for the affected unit. Adjoining units suffered minor damage as well. Sadly, at least one adult has been displaced due to this incident.

The cause of this devastating fire remains under investigation by authorities. Thankfully, no injuries were reported among civilians or firefighters involved in this incident.
